In a report released last Tuesday, Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (PG&E) said since the end of October, when it issued an initial report, it has confirmed an additional 21 “Grade 1” leaks on its system, bringing the total number of leaks that required immediate action to 59, all of which have been repaired.

Magnum Hunter Ramps Up in West Virginia

The first well drilled by Magnum Hunter Resources Corp. into the northwestern West Virginia portion of the Marcellus Shale tested at an initial production (IP) rate of 7.0 MMcfe/d and was producing as of Dec. 22 into the recently completed Eureka Hunter Pipeline system, the company said.

Fracking Services Provider Files to Go Public

Cisco, TX-based Frac Tech Services Inc. has filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for an initial public offering of common stock to raise up to $690 million. The company said it intends to apply to list its shares on the New York Stock Exchange.

Sponsor Sees Limits to New York Fracking Ban

New York state lawmakers have no plans to extend their proposed ban on the issuance of new permits for drilling involving hydraulic fracturing (fracking) beyond the May 15 deadline included in a bill recently passed by both chambers of the state’s legislature, according to Assemblyman Robert Sweeney (D-Suffolk County).

Privately held Kinder Morgan Inc. has announced plans to rejoin the New York Stock Exchange with the launch of an initial public offering (IPO) for up to $1.5 billion. Parent company Kinder Morgan Holdco LLC said all of the stock for the IPO would be sold by existing investors including Chairman Richard Kinder and his wife, who together hold a stake of about 31% in the company. Other sellers include Goldman, Sachs & Co., Highstar Capital LP, The Carlyle Group and Riverstone Holdings LLC. The company plans to list under its former symbol “KMI.” Timing of the IPO was not disclosed. In 2007 Kinder Morgan went private in an estimated $15 billion buyout (see NGI, June 4, 2007). Kinder Morgan owns the general partner and about 11% of the limited partner interests in Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, one of the largest publicly traded U.S. pipeline master limited partnerships, which has an enterprise value of more than $30 billion.
