BreitBurn Energy Partners LP is building its stake in onshore natural gas properties under an agreement to purchase all of Quicksilver Resources Inc.’s properties in Michigan, Indiana and Kentucky for $750 million in cash and 21.35 million of BreitBurn’s common units. The transaction, expected to close early next month, is 94% weighted to gas, with a total value of about $1.45 billion.

Transportation Notes

ANR Pipeline said it must repair an engine at the St. John Compressor Station in Indiana in the Northern Fuel Segment (ML-7) that will reduce St. John west-to-east capacity by 115 MMcf/d (leaving 1,190 MMcf/d available) through Dec. 18. Based on current nominations, the outage could result in the curtailment of firm secondary and IT nominations, ANR said.

Sempra, ProLiance Buy Salt Cavern Storage in LA

San Diego-based Sempra Energy’s pipeline unit and a subsidiary of Indiana-based ProLiance Energy jointly announced last week that they purchased three salt caverns in Cameron Parish, LA, representing the potential for 10-12 Bcf of natural gas storage capacity, from Richmond, VA-based Dominion. The purchase includes 150 acres of adjacent property carrying the potential for more storage capacity.

Dominion Exploring Sale of Plants; Eyes Point Beach Nuke Plant

Dominion is investigating the possible sale of four merchant power plants located in Indiana, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio, CEO Tom Farrell told investors during a conference call last week. Meanwhile, the company is keeping an eye on the Point Beach nuclear power plant, which could be put up for sale by Wisconsin Energy.

Transportation Notes

Texas Eastern said the investigation and repair of the pipeline break at the discharge of the French Lick station in Indiana continues. Until completion of the investigation and repair, receipts on the 24-inch diameter line will be restricted. For Oct. 17, it was not necessary to restrict nominations for gas leaving the constrained area due to reductions in requested volumes. However, Tetco said no incremental supply nominations can be accepted.
