CPUC Postpones Action on Long Beach LNG Investigation

Without discussion or comment, the head of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) Thursday pulled from consideration a last-minute item to launch an investigation of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal plans for Long Beach Harbor. The issue is to be considered at the regulators’ next regularly scheduled business meeting April 22.

After four straight days of rising quotes at nearly all points, softness set in Friday across the board. Declines ranged from about a nickel to a quarter, with a majority being in the teens.

BHP Billiton Taps McDonald to Head Gas and Power

Longtime energy executive Rebecca A. McDonald has resigned from her spot on Noble Energy’s board of directors in order to accept a position as president of gas and power for Australian-based BHP Billiton, a large diversified resources company that includes petroleum exploration and production operations. The company was the second highest bidder in the Minerals Management Service’s Central Gulf Lease Sale 190 last Wednesday (see related story).

One week after California regulators announced they had asserted jurisdiction over proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities in Long Beach harbor, the state’s chief regulator Michael R. Peevey last Monday personally extended an olive branch to FERC Chairman Pat Wood in the “spirit of cooperation” to resolve any potential conflicts between the two agencies.
