Two Gas Storage Projects Get FERC Approval

Two natural gas storage projects received favorable rulings from FERC on Wednesday. Aquila affiliate Red Lake Gas Storage LP received preliminary approval on nonenvironmental grounds for construction of a salt cavern natural gas storage facility in Mohave County, AZ, with 12 Bcf of working gas capacity and 900,000 Dth/d of maximum deliverability. FERC also awarded a limited jurisdiction blanket certificate to Saltville Storage Co. LLC, which is building a salt cavern in southwestern Virginia.

Northwest, East Tennessee, Gulfstream Projects Score at FERC

FERC issued favorable preliminary determinations (PD) on non-environmental grounds for two Northwest Pipeline expansion projects and East Tennessee Natural Gas’ Patriot project last week, and approved an amendment to the Gulfstream Natural Gas System LLC pipeline certificate that will allow the Florida pipeline system to be completed in two phases.

FERC granted a favorable preliminary determination on non-environmental grounds to the Georgia Strait Crossing project Wednesday. The 47.5-mile, 16-inch and 20-inch diameter pipeline would deliver 95,700 Dth/d of gas to Vancouver Island from connections with Northwest Pipeline and Westcoast Energy near Sumas, WA.

FERC issued favorable preliminary determinations on non-environmental grounds last week on two major pipeline expansion projects, one of which would double Kern River Gas Transmission pipeline capacity to California. The other project, Florida Gas Transmission’s (FGT) $105.4 million Phase VI expansion, would provide 85,356 Dth/d of additional pipeline capacity for markets in Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama and Florida.

Northwest’s Grays Harbor Lateral Gets PD from FERC

FERC issued a favorable preliminary determination on non-environmental grounds Wednesday to Northwest Pipeline’s proposed 49-mile Grays Harbor Lateral, which would deliver up to 161,500 Dth/d of gas to Duke Energy Grays Harbor LLC’s proposed power plant in the state of Washington. The $75.2 million pipeline project includes two 16-inch diameter taps and would have 4,700 hp of compression from the Turnwater Station.

Iroquois’ Eastchester Project Gets Preliminary FERC Nod

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) gave Iroquois’ $174 million Eastchester Expansion Project its preliminary approval on non-environmental grounds. The 33-mile pipeline expansion is designed to deliver 230,000 Dth/d mainly to power generators in New York City. It will connect Iroquois’ existing system in Suffolk County with Consolidated Edison’s system in the Bronx. Iroquois hopes to complete the pipeline extension by November 2002.

Southern LNG Vaporization Upgrade Approved

Southern LNG’s proposed enhancements to its Elba Islandvaporization facilities were granted preliminary approval onnon-environmental grounds by FERC last week. Southern plans toremove five existing vaporizers and replace them with moreefficient ones, resulting in 135 MMcf/d of increased send-outcapability.
