Pogo to Accelerate GOM Deepwater Exploration with Increased Budget

Houston-based independent Pogo Producing Co. is gearing up to expand exploration in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico (GOM) through the end of the year, after the board of directors upped the capital expenditure budget by 36%. Every operating division of the company will share in the increased funding, but most of the money will be directed toward drilling of at least five new high-potential GOM exploration prospects.

Kinder Morgan Readies More Pipe, Terminal Expansions

Kinder Morgan Inc. CEO Richard Kinder said last week that the company is “gearing up” to complete two pipeline expansions and is on track to begin an expansion of several of its liquids terminals facilities. The CEO said the NGPL pipeline expansion in St. Louis, as well as a North Texas intrastate line running to Dallas to serve power plants, are “both proceeding on schedule and on budget.” The St. Louis expansion will be completed this summer, and the NGPL pipe will be ready in early 2003, and other “opportunities” related to the constrained U.S. energy infrastructure, continue to surface, he said.

House Dems Push For Floor Consideration of Price Caps

Democrats in the House of Representatives are gearing up to wage a fight this week that, if successful, would force consideration of energy price-cap legislation on to the House floor. The move by House Democrats stands in marked contrast to a recent decision by their counterparts in the Senate to hold off on similar legislation in the wake of a move by FERC last week to extend price controls on bulk electricity transactions to the entire western region.

Utility.com Prepares for NJ Customers Sept. 1

Utility.com is gearing up for Sept. 1, when New Jersey consumers will be allowed to select their electricity suppliers through the Internet. The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) earlier granted Utility.com an Electric Power Supplier License to sell into the New Jersey market of 3.5 million electricity customers, and the company will use an Internet Enrollment Program.
