Ultra-High Gas Growth for Ultra in Wyoming

With the Green River Basin of southwestern Wyoming providing the fuel, Ultra Petroleum Corp. Friday reported its largest three-month production numbers in history, with 1Q2007 output soaring 42% to a record 28.5 Bcfe from a year ago. Production on the Wyoming acreage alone increased more than 50%.

Seneca to Audit Appalachia Holdings, Consider Midstream Investment

The exploration and production (E&P) arm of National Fuel Gas Co. (NFG) is hiring a third-party consultant to analyze the reserve potential of its Appalachian Basin holdings, executives said last week. Seneca Resources Corp.’s current proved reserves total about 83 Bcfe, or 13% of its total consolidated reserves, but the E&P wants to test the potential of its 935,000 net acre play after partnering with EOG Resources Inc. on some horizontal drilling projects.

Transportation Notes

ANR Pipeline said it must repair an engine at the St. John Compressor Station in Indiana in the Northern Fuel Segment (ML-7) that will reduce St. John west-to-east capacity by 115 MMcf/d (leaving 1,190 MMcf/d available) through Dec. 18. Based on current nominations, the outage could result in the curtailment of firm secondary and IT nominations, ANR said.

The new Rhode Island law that prevents tankers carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) from using the state’s waters to deliver the chilled fuel is unconstitutional and conflicts with the safety-security efforts of the U.S. Coast Guard, an official with the Center for Liquefied Natural Gas (CLNG) said last Tuesday.

ExxonMobil Shareholders Give CEO an Earful

ExxonMobil Corp.’s new CEO Rex Tillerson took it on the chin from disgruntled shareholders Wednesday listening to complaints about high fuel prices, exorbitant executive pay, underfunded pension plans and lack of a clear policy on alternative energy. But in the end, the protests — loud but mostly polite — failed to make much of a difference.

Sierra Pacific Power Asks for 10% Gas Rate Increase Dec. 1

Reflecting higher wholesale costs for fuel over the past 12 months and estimates of what the future holds, Sierra Pacific Power Co. Monday made its annual mandatory natural gas deferred-energy filing with the Nevada Public Utilities Commission, seeking a 10% boost in retail gas rates, effective Dec. 1. The Sierra Pacific Resources’ Reno-based utility said the filing reflects the “continuing high energy costs around the country.”
