Cheniere Energy Inc. has closed the sale of its 30% limited partner interest in Freeport LNG Development LP for net proceeds of approximately $104 million to ZHA FLNG Purchaser LLC, an entity formed by Zachry American Infrastructure LLC and Hastings Funds Management USA Inc. on behalf of institutional investors, Cheniere said. Net proceeds are to be used to pay down a portion of the $400 million, 9.75% term loan held by a Cheniere subsidiary, the company said (see Daily GPI, April 26). The transaction is in line with Cheniere’s strategy of improving its capital structure and reducing debt.

Major Southeast Pipe, Texas Storage Projects Win FERC Approval

FERC Thursday approved a major interstate natural gas pipeline project that would provide additional takeaway capacity for producers in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas basins, as well as a salt dome storage facility proposed for Southeast Texas.

McMoRan Files Application for Offshore Louisiana LNG Terminal/Storage Project

McMoRan Exploration Co. subsidiary Freeport-McMoRan Energy LLC has filed a license application with the Coast Guard for a proposed offshore Louisiana liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal and gas storage project and filed an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for a 5 mile, 1.5 Bcf/d gas pipeline.

McMoRan, Trinity Considering Offshore LNG Facility in Gulf

Freeport-McMoRan Sulphur LLC (FSC), a McMoRan Exploration Co. subsidiary, on Thursday agreed to sell some of its Main Pass Block 299 facilities in the Gulf of Mexico to Trinity Storage Services LP for $12.4 million. Trinity in turn is considering using the facilities for, among other things, oil and gas drilling support, oil and gas storage at the salt dome there, and a possible offshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility. FSC would receive 9% of future revenues from any of the commercial activities through 2021.

Gas Rig Blowout in Offshore Gulf, One Missing

One man was still missing late Friday afternoon after a natural gas drilling rig, operating about 26 miles south of Freeport, TX, had what the companies involved called a “well control incident” in the pre-dawn hours. Global Marine Inc. and Marine Drilling Cos., which had 40 people on the rig, reported that 37 men and two women were evacuated from Marine Drilling’s “Marine 4” rig in two lifeboats following the blowout.. A supervisor was reportedly missing, and aggressive search operations were under way by the U.S. Coast Guard.
