OSHA Cites Texas Drilling Firm in Fatal Rig Collapse

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has cited a Fort Worth, TX drilling firm for six alleged willful, repeat and serious violations of safety standards following the May 12 collapse of a natural gas drilling rig in the Town of Dix in western New York that killed one worker and seriously injured three others. Union Drilling Inc. faces $138,500 in total fines.

Range Resources Ups Production Target by 15% Through 2007

Fort Worth-based Range Resources Corp. reported a 13% increase in oil and natural gas production in the second quarter over a year ago, to 264 MMcfe/d, the highest quarterly production in the independent’s history. The gas-weighted Range, whose recent acquisition of privately held Stroud Energy Inc. doubled its leasehold in the Barnett Shale (see NGI, May 15), said its drilling success has prompted it to raise its production target by 15% through 2007.

Range Doubles Barnett Shale Leasehold with $456M Stroud Purchase

With an eye toward expanding its position in the Barnett Shale play in North Texas, Range Resources entered into an agreement to buy Fort Worth-based Stroud Energy Inc. for $456 million, including $82 million in assumed debt. The purchase gives Range 171 Bcfe of proved reserves and 33 MMcf/d of production, half of which is from the Barnett Shale.

XTO Closes on Acquisition of Barnett Producer Peak

Fort Worth-based XTO Energy Inc. closed its acquisition of Peak Energy Resources Inc., a Barnett Shale producer, for equity consideration of 2.555 million shares of XTO common stock (see Daily GPI, June 2). The price was increased by approximately $5.4 million in cash consideration to acquire an additional 3,600 net acres, bringing the total net leasehold acquired to about 37,000 acres. During June, XTO repurchased 2.2 million shares of its common stock in the open market at an average price of $37.74/share.

XTO Buying Barnett Shale Producer Peak Energy

Fort Worth-based XTO Energy Inc. agreed to buy privately held Peak Energy Resources Inc., a Barnett Shale producer, for equity consideration of 2.555 million shares of XTO common stock, valued at $105 million.
