Western Gas Resources has joined the Fort Union Gas GatheringPartnership formed to deliver 450 MMcf/d or more of coal-bedmethane from the Powder River Basin by the end of next year.

Texas Utilities, ServiceMaster Offering Energy Management

Texas Utilities Co. subsidiary TU Integrated Solutions formed astrategic venture with ServiceMaster to own and operate an energymanagement business. The new venture has acquired all the assets ofServiceMaster Energy Management (SEM), currently a division ofServiceMaster, and will be owned 85% by Texas Utilities and 15% byServiceMaster. Texas Utilities will invest $46 million for itsshare of the venture.

Tejas Partners in TX, LA Midstream Venture

Shell Oil affiliate Tejas Natural Gas Liquids LLC and EnterpriseProducts Partners L.P. have formed joint venture Entell NGLServices LLC to develop a gas liquids transportation anddistribution system. Entell’s initial asset base will includesubstantially all of Enterprise’s existing pipeline facilities inLouisiana. In addition, Entell will create a pipeline systemlinking storage at Breaux Bridge, LA, to Mont Belvieu, TX. Entellanticipates the system being capable of distributing products fromkey NGL sources in southern Louisiana directly to major NGLmarkets, including the lower Mississippi River corridor, Dixiepipeline, Lake Charles, LA, and Mont Belvieu.

TCPL Offers U.S. Partnership Shares

TransCanada PipeLines plans to sell to the public 15.6 millionshares (excluding a 2.4 million over-allotment option) of a newlimited partnership formed to acquire and operate its U.S. pipelineinterests. The public offering would represent 78.2% of the totalinterest in the new TC PipeLines LP, which will own a 30% stake inthe recently expanded Northern Border Pipeline.

Avista invests in Gas-Fired Generation

Washington Water Power’s newly formed affiliate Avista PowerInc. and Cogentrix Energy Inc. agreed to jointly build and/or buyinterests in gas-fired electric generation plants in the PacificNorthwest states of Washington, Oregon and Idaho. The first projectunder the new agreement is an approximately 270 megawatt facilityto be located in Rathdrum, ID. A power purchase agreement for theRathdrum project was signed simultaneously with the developmentagreement.

Houston Industries (HI) is reconfiguring its organization tocapitalize on the convergence of gas and power. HI formed HoustonIndustries Wholesale Energy Group to combine its power generation,gas transportation, and wholesale energy trading and marketingcapabilities of the company.

MarketSpan Changes Name to KeySpan

After three months operating as MarketSpan Corp., the companyformed by the merger of Brooklyn Union Gas parent KeySpan Energyand Long Island Lighting and Power, has decided to change its nameto KeySpan Energy. CEO Robert B. Catell said the decision was madebecause of KeySpan’s superior name recognition in its serviceterritory. The company will trade on the New York Stock Exchangeunder the symbol KSE.
