Most Points Follow the Screen Lower

The previous-day screen plunge was able to trump growth in heating load as a cash price influence Tuesday. Some points, primarily in the Gulf Coast and Northeast, were flat to moderately higher, but a decided majority of the market opened the December aftermarket weakly in recording losses ranging from about a nickel to 40 cents or so.

Natural Gas Futures Follow Heating Oil Higher Into the Weekend

After settling below the psychological $7.00 mark for the first time since Sept. 27 on Thursday, December natural gas futures rebounded Friday on sympathy with soaring prices in the petroleum futures complex. Prices Up, But Likely to Follow Screen Lower

Based largely on Tuesday’s screen run-up and to some extent on moderately increasing heating load in the West and some northern areas, swing prices rose Wednesday from a little less than a dime to about 45 cents. All but two points recorded double-digit gains.

Futures Retreat Slightly Ahead of Storage Report

Unable to follow up on their whopping 27.6-cent rally on Tuesday, August natural gas futures spent Wednesday shaving off some of the gain ahead of Thursday morning’s natural gas storage report for the week ended July 2. The prompt month traded as low as $6.335 before settling at $6.37, down 5.4 cents on the day.

With the exception of three energy-related tax provisions, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Bill Thomas (R-CA) has decided to largely forego piggybacking a package of energy tax breaks and incentives to the House version of the corporate tax cut bill (HR 4520).
