Ultra Petroleum Corp. said that while it produced record volumes during 1Q2012 and was optimistic about its plans to target oil shale in the Niobrara, it would follow the example of its joint venture (JV) partners in the Marcellus and cut capital expenditures (capex) for the rest of the year.

Southwestern Releases Brown Dense Results
Although its profits fell while production grew, Southwestern Energy Co. said its drilling programs in both the Fayetteville and Marcellus shales remain profitable. But the Houston-based company also plans to divert $50 million in midstream capital toward ventures in the Brown Dense formation and the Denver-Julesburg (DJ) Basin.
Equitrans Cleared to Use OFO to Detect Lost Gas
FERC has rejected protests to an operational flow order (OFO) that Equitrans LP issued last November to determine whether lost-and-unaccounted-for (LAUF) gas was being caused by leaks on its Appalachian Basin gathering system.

In the article “TransCanada: Marcellus-Backed Flow Reversal Is Inevitable” (see NGI, Feb. 27), NGI incorrectly stated that Union Gas is working on plans for a new import route from New York State to its Dawn storage and trading hub in southern Ontario. Union Gas in fact has no plans for a competitive pipeline with an import route from New York State to Dawn. The company says it has discussed the need for an expansion of pipeline capacity east of Parkway to Maple to relieve a transportation bottleneck on this corridor, and it continues to believe an expansion of this path is required. NGI regrets the error.

Marcellus Dry Gas Producers Slamming on the Brakes, Says Bentek
Drillers in northeastern Pennsylvania — the dry gas area of the Marcellus Shale — in the months ahead will stomp on the brakes with both feet and jam the dry gas freight train into reverse, according to an analysis by Bentek Energy LLC. Even if they do, a bulging gas surplus will fester behind pipeline capacity constraints for years to come, the firm said.
Williams Partners, Cabot to Build Marcellus Interstate Gas System
As part of its strategy to create a major natural gas supply hub in northeastern Pennsylvania, Williams Partners has formed an interstate pipeline joint venture with Cabot Oil & Gas Corp., one of the top producers in the Marcellus Shale.

Because of increased flow on Algonquin and its resulting ability to blend additional supplies, Millennium said it was permitted Thursday to increase deliveries from 250,000 Dth/d to 325,000 Dth/d. Millennium said it planned to carry out the scheduled work Friday aimed at improving its moisture levels and restoring the Ramapo delivery point into Algonquin to full capacity.
