EIA Reports Will Be Released Despite Shutdown

Despite the shutdown of the federal government, all of the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA) reports should be released on schedule this week and next, the agency said Tuesday. FERC also was conducting business as usual Tuesday for an unspecified time until its reserve funds run out. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) had only key personnel continuing to work.

Tennessee Lays Out Schedule for Start-Up of Northeast Upgrade Project

In order to meet the Nov. 1 start-up date for its Northeast Upgrade Project, Tennessee Gas Pipeline (TGP) has asked FERC for permission to begin placing components of the system expansion, which would add 636,000 Dth/d of takeaway capacity from the Marcellus Shale, in service as early as October.

FERC Prepared for Possible Government Shutdown

In the event of a potential government shutdown beginning at 12:00 a.m. (EST) on Oct. 1, FERC said the majority of its approximately 1,500 employees would be furloughed, while it would continue to inspect liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects, monitor energy markets for manipulation or other violations of Commission rules and potential threats to energy infrastructure.

With the shoulder season in full swing where it is cool enough to turn off the air conditioning yet not cold enough to turn on the heat,NGI’s October Bidweek National Spot Gas Average was a nickel lower than September at $3.44, yet 47 cents higher than the October 2012 bidweek average of $2.97. Most regions of the country for October 2013 eased anywhere from a couple of pennies to as much as a dime.
