Nicor Energy May Face Civil Action by SEC, Sells More Retail Sales Accounts

Facing potential civil action by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for allegedly improper accounting practices, Nicor Energy continued to sell off its customer contracts last week. The company, which is a partnership between Nicor Inc and Dynegy sold energy supply contracts covering about 8,000 commercial and industrial gas and electric customers in three midwestern states to Constellation Energy Group for an undisclosed sum.

Xcel Facing $2 Billion Loss for 2002 Thanks to NRG Energy’s Woes

Creditors Given Permission to Sue Former Enron Execs

Ten of Enron Corp.’s former top executives, including Chairman Kenneth Lay, CEO Jeffrey Skilling and CFO Andrew Fastow, now face lawsuits by creditors after the U.S. Bankruptcy Court overseeing the company’s case gave its permission. The lawsuits would be handled in Texas district court.

Oregon Consumers, Stakeholders Seek to Buy PGE, Stabilize Rates

Consumer unrest in the face of substantial retail power rate increases over the past 12 months throughout Oregon bubbled to the top last week with stronger calls for a consumer-county government spawned effort to buy Portland General Electric Co. (PGE) from its bankrupt parent, Enron Corp. The proposal envisions rolling back rates and turning PGE into a nonprofit utility. However, none of the local government entities has endorsed the proposal at this time.
