Millennium Pipeline Co. LLC is holding a binding open season through Feb. 12 for firm transportation capacity commencing Nov. 1, 2013 to support system mainline expansions linking the Marcellus Shale in New York to the state’s Manhattan borough. Information is available at www.millenniumpipeline.com and on Millennium’s electronic bulletin board. In November Texas Eastern Transmission LP (Tetco) and Iroquois Gas Transmission System LP each announced open seasons for projects that would target growing production in the Marcellus Shale (see NGI, Nov. 23, 2009). Tetco announced that Range Resources would be the anchor shipper on an expansion of its system to deliver Marcellus gas to the Northeast and Iroquois Gas Transmission System LP announced a nonbinding open season through Friday (Jan. 29) for its NYMarc project, which would connect expanding Marcellus Shale gas supplies to New York, New England and eastern Canadian gas markets.

FERC-Approved Projects Give Shale, LNG More Market Access

Following its August hiatus, FERC last Thursday approved three expansions — for Midcontinent Express Pipeline (MEP), Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line (Transco) and Mississippi Hub LLC. The proposed facilities would give shale gas producers and liquefied natural gas (LNG) importers greater access to natural gas markets along the East Coast and in the Northeast.

West Awash in Gas, LNG Uncertain, But New Pipes Roll On

Western North America has overreacted to price signals and taken “drill, baby, drill” to an extreme, and as a result the region is saturated with natural gas production that outstrips the current prospective markets, according to a panel of western energy executives who spoke last Tuesday at the 2008 LDC Forum Rockies & West Conference in Irvine, CA. Current swift drops in wholesale gas prices will help, but volatility still adds continued uncertainty for buyers, the panelists said.

Delays in liquefied natural gas (LNG) expansions in Equatorial Guinea will push down Marathon Oil Co.’s expected second quarter production numbers, the company said last week. Quarterly worldwide production for the Houston-based producer will average 341,000 boe/d, off from its previous guidance of 348,000 boe/d, and the 2004 production forecast will average 360,000 boe/d, compared with a previous estimate of 365,000 boe/d.
