Avista-STEAG, NRG Partner in Power Project

Avista-STEAG LLC and NRG Energy have entered into a partnershipin the hopes of adding 633 MW of power generation to Texas’ powerpool in 2003. The partnership will build, manage and operate thenatural gas-fired Brazos Valley project to be located in Fort BendCounty, TX, about 30 miles southwest of Houston.

SCANA to Build Power Plant and Pipeline in NC

SCANA and Fayetteville Public Works Commission (PWC) reportedthey have entered into a joint agreement to build and shareownership of a natural gas-fired 500 MW power plant that willsupply electricity to Fayetteville, NC, residents and businessesbeginning during the summer of 2004. Scana also will build a106-mile gas pipeline lateral from its existing pipeline system inSouth Carolina to supply the plant.

MGV Energy, PanCanadian Target Canadian Coal-bed Methane

Texas-based Quicksilver Resources reported that its Canadiansubsidiary, MGV Energy, has entered into a joint venture withPanCanadian Petroleum, to explore and develop coal-bed methane(CBM) reserves on one million acres of PanCanadian-owned land. Theproject will focus on PanCanadian’s Palliser block in SouthernAlberta, and is one of the largest potential CBM plays in NorthAmerica, the companies said.

Texas-based Quicksilver Resources reported that its Canadiansubsidiary, MGV Energy, has entered into a joint venture withPanCanadian Petroleum Ltd., to explore and develop coal-bed methane(CBM) reserves on one million acres of PanCanadian-owned land. Theproject will focus on PanCanadian’s Palliser block in SouthernAlberta, and is one of the largest potential CBM plays in NorthAmerica, the companies said.

Enbridge Gas New Brunswick (EGNB) has entered into a three yeardeal whereby Green Bay, WI,-based WPS Energy Services will assumecontrol of EGNB’s approximate 11 MMcf/d transportation capacity onMaritimes & Northeast Pipeline. EGNB had to unload the capacitybecause as the distributor it could not also sell gas.

Included inthe deal is 4,000 MW of capacity in construction and developmentphases.

Internet-based electricity and natural gas provider SmartEnergyannounced that it has entered an agreement to become a featuredmerchant on Yahoo! Shopping, marking the first residential energyservice provider on the e-commerce provider. Yahoo! Shopping willnow give customers in deregulated energy markets a choice in thepurchase of electricity and gas.

In its first major power sale from its still unfinished merchantenergy plant in Arizona, Calpine Corp. has entered into a five-yearpower sales agreement with the Imperial Irrigation District todeliver 150 MW of electricity from its South Point Energy Center tothe district’s Southern California customers beginning in May 2002.
