Despite unanswered questions about whether the holding company will be dragged into some part of its former merchant unit’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy and the timely completion of its utility company’s bankruptcy emergence, San Francisco-based PG&E Corp.’s CEO told an industry financial audience in Orlando, FL, Tuesday that his utility company is on a “clear path” to clearing the final hurdles with state regulators and the federal bankruptcy court.

Former Enron Power Trader Arrested on Fraud, Conspiracy Charges
A third former Enron executive was dragged away in handcuffs by the FBI last week on charges that he was the architect of some of the more infamous energy trading schemes that were designed to manipulate the California energy market from 1999 through 2001. John M. Forney, 41, the former head of Enron’s real time power trading desk in Portland, OR, and a current employee of American Electric Power (AEP) was charged last Tuesday with wire fraud and conspiracy. He was arrested at AEP’s headquarters in Columbus, OH.
Energy Shares Fall Sharply on Enron Calamity
The Enron calamity dragged down many energy company stocks Wednesday and the stocks of some financial institutions, particularly Citigroup and JP Morgan Chase & Co., which were working on the now defunct $8.4 billion Enron-Dynegy merger. Many energy companies, however, said they have had weeks to prepare for this and have reduced their Enron exposures to manageable levels.
