Chestnut Ridge Storage LLC has launched a nonbinding open season for up to 25 Bcf of new natural gas storage capacity at the proposed Junction Natural Gas Storage Facility being developed in southwestern Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia. Chestnut Ridge is owned by affiliates of Omaha, NE-based Tenaska Power Fund LP (TPF) and Houston’s eCORP LLC. Junction is being converted from a depleted gas reservoir into a multi-cycle, high-deliverability storage facility with 500,000 Dth/d of injection and withdrawal capability. Its target in-service date is 1Q2009. The open season will close at 5 p.m. CDT on Oct. 10. Cold fronts were either already squelching or about to squelch much of the cooling load that had developed in the East, while the West was a mix of summer-like conditions to the south and unusual chill to the north. Cash prices responded by falling at nearly every point Friday, with only a few scattered instances of flat quotes preventing an across the board sweep of softness.

Marathon Oil Corp. last week acquired 8,700 net acres of natural gas-weighted properties in the Piceance Basin of Colorado in a cash transaction valued at $354 million. The acreage, acquired from Petroleum Development Corp. (PDC), is located in Garfield County in the Greater Grand Valley Field Complex, which is flanked by, and on-trend with, adjacent Marathon production.
