AEP Wants to Mothball Idle Texas Power Plants to Improve Finances

American Electric Power (AEP) has asked the Electricity Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) to determine which of its 16 natural gas-fired power plants in the state’s grid system, which have remained idle for most of this year, have to remain activated. AEP plans to mothball some or all of the Texas power plants by the end of the year if they are not on the state’s “reliability must run” (RMR) list, to boost the company’s bottom line.

ANR Pipeline Co. began a non-binding open season on Wednesday to determine customer interest in contracting for additional transportation capacity on its existing natural gas pipeline system to markets along the Lebanon Lateral in southwest Ohio. The open season will run through Oct. 11.

S&P to Revise Energy Trading Analysis to Reflect ‘Evolution’ Of Sector

Its reliance on a company’s capital adequacy to determine credit ratings may work for most, but Standard & Poor’s plans to “refine” its analysis methods for energy marketers and traders because of the “recent developments” within the industry. S&P, which began covering the energy trading sector in 1997, noted that the continued price volatility for both power and natural gas markets, the “bilateral and unregulated nature” of the sector and a “lack of adequate trading infrastructure” all played a part in its decision to revamp its methods.
