Global gas producer BG Group plc, which has substantial production under way in the Haynesville Shale and growing output in the Marcellus, said Tuesday its net production in the United States by 2015 will nearly double to 190,000 boe/d from the current 100,000 boe/d.

May natural gas futures rose as traders demonstrate internal market dynamics pointing to at least a market bottom if not higher prices. At the close Tuesday May futures were up 15.2 cents to $4.160 and June added 14.2 cents to $4.253. May crude oil slipped 29 cents to $84.05/bbl.

NRG to Buy Reliant’s Texas Retail Unit; Exelon to Evaluate Deal
NRG Energy’s proposed $287.5 million cash acquisition of Reliant Energy Inc.’s retail electricity unit in Texas would give the company a leading retailer in the deregulated Texas market, considered to be the most competitive in the nation. What effect the transaction would have on Exelon Corp.’s proposed takeover of NRG remains a question, but industry executives noted that the deal addresses credit issues that have buffeted Reliant and the rest of the industry.
