Texas Regulators, Industry Question EPA Diesel Fuel Fracking Rules

Language included in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPACT) relating to the use of diesel fuel in hydraulic fracturing (fracking) “is extremely unclear and is open to interpretation,” making it unclear if the use of diesel fuel in fracking operations would be a violation of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), according to a Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) spokesman.

Upside Open? Futures Add 15.7 Cents to $4.164

Continuing the wild back and forth trading from one week to the next, December natural gas futures on Friday traded between $3.975 and $4.175 before closing at $4.164, up 15.7 cents from Thursday and 36.5 cents higher than the previous week’s finish.

Futures Erase Rally By Dropping Another 12.8 Cents

Despite some colder-than-normal temperatures on the horizon, December natural gas futures probed lower values for a third consecutive day on Friday. The prompt-month contract recorded a $3.794 low before closing the regular session at $3.799, down 12.8 cents from Thursday’s close and 13.8 cents lower than the previous week’s close.

EIA: Monthly Production Slips for First Time This Year

Natural gas production in the Lower 48 states declined in June for the first time since last December, down 1.2%, or 0.81 Bcf/d, according to the latest 914 production data released by the Energy Information Administration (EIA).
