Chevron Blames Some of Reserves Decline on Venezuela Fall-Out

Chevron Corp. replaced only 11% of its proven oil and natural gas reserves in 2007 and total reserves fell 7% from 2006. Part of the decline was due to “the effect of a conversion of operating service agreements” in Venezuela, the company said Thursday.

Petal Gas Plans Open Season for Storage, Pipe Capacity

Enterprise Products Partners LP last Monday said its subsidiary, Petal Gas Storage LLC of Petal, MS, will hold a non-binding open season for up to 5 Bcf of firm natural gas storage capacity that is expected to be available in the fourth quarter of 2007. The company also will hold a concurrent non-binding open season for up to 500 MMcf of firm transportation on its mainline pipeline (Line 100).

DOE Looks At New LNG Unloading and Regasification Process

The Department of Energy (DOE) announced late last month that Houston-based Conversion Gas Imports LLC (CGI) has reported its findings on the “Bishop Process” — a novel method of unloading and regasifying liquefied natural gas (LNG) directly from ocean tankers for storage in underground salt caverns. The DOE said initial indications are that a salt cavern-based LNG terminal can be built at about half the cost and twice the capacity of a conventional liquid tank terminal.
