Sempra Energy International said it began construction on a23-mile, $35 million pipeline running from California to Mexicolast week, adding to the already-extensive activity the company isinvolved in south of the border. The 300 MMcf/d pipeline isscheduled to begin service to the Presidente Juarez power stationat Rosarito, Baja California by December.

Northeast Continues Down, Remainder Holds Fast
Cash market prices remained predominantly flat during Tuesday’strading session, mimicking a stagnant Nymex futures screen and heldfast by decreasing demand nationwide. Aside from major Northeasternmarkets, which almost doubled Monday’s declines, cash continuedflat to a penny lower at most trading points.
Market Softening Continues into Weekend
Prices continued to slump Friday by approximately the samedegree as they had Thursday. Declines for weekend flow ranged fromas little as a couple of cents to almost a dime, with most in theneighborhood of a nickel. Another screen drop was the maininfluence on cash, sources said, and even the forecasts of a newwinter storm developing over the weekend weren’t enough to avertmore softening.
April Continues Lower, Drops Another 6 Cents
The bearish American Gas Association storage report was too muchfor the April contract last week. Despite strength that sent thecontract to a new high of $1.965 last Wednesday, April ended theweek near its low, down 9.4 cents on news that a large storagesurplus remains. After falling 12.1 cents on Thursday, the contractattempted an initial push Friday morning but immediately loststeam, dropping sharply to a low of 1.750 only to zigzag sidewaysthe rest of the day before closing down 6.1 cents at $1.759/MMBtu.
