GMX Resources Adds Oily Bakken, Niobrara Reserves

GMX Resources Inc. (GMXR) said it has branched out from its Haynesville/Bossier natural gas-directed properties, collecting about 67,724 net acres within the core horizontal oil development areas of the Bakken/Sanish-Three Forks Formation in the Williston Basin and the Niobrara Formation in the Denver-Julesburg (DJ) Basin.

AGA, NGSA Recommend Changes to Storage Survey Procedures

The main thing the Energy Information Administration (EIA) can do to improve its weekly storage survey, according to two veteran natural gas associations, is to improve its procedures for collecting and vetting the data it receives from companies, so that after-the-fact revisions will be unnecessary. The suggestions were filed Monday in response to EIA’s call for comments on changing its procedures for announcing revisions to the weekly storage number (see Daily GPI, Jan. 10).

OPS Takes Heat for its Record of Collecting Fines in Major Pipeline Blasts

The Department of Transportation’s Office of Pipeline Safety (OPS), which has come under attack for failing to collect penalties for major pipeline safety violations, reported Tuesday it settled with Shell Pipeline Co. LP this month for $250,000 in connection with the 1999 blast on Olympic Pipe Line Co. that killed three persons.

Maritimes Plans Expansion; El Paso Offshore Atlantic Project on Track

With El Paso hot on its heels with a new offshore Atlantic pipeline proposal, Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline (Maritimes) is fast collecting market requests for expansion capacity. It said last week it received nominations for 1.7 Bcf/d of new transportation capacity on the Canadian portion of its pipeline system and 1.3 Bcf/d on the U.S. portion in an open season for its proposed $380 million Phase IV expansion project.
