Quicksilver Closes CMS Michigan E&P Deal

Quicksilver Resources Inc. completed its acquisition of CMSEnergy Corp.’s gas and crude oil exploration and productionproperties in Michigan, including the stock of Terra Energy Ltd.,as well as other smaller interests in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.The deal was announced in January (see Daily GPI Jan. 20).

Barrett Closes In on Piceance Basin Domination

Barrett Resources Corp. announced a purchase and sale agreementto acquire additional working interests in Piceance Basin gasproperties in western Colorado and all the outstanding interest inthe related gas gathering system for $72 million last week.Although the company said multiple sellers were involved, it wouldnot divulge who those sellers were. Closing on the propertypurchases is expected to occur on Dec. 16. Acquisition of thegathering system is subject to regulatory approval, which isexpected in January 2000.

Southern Energy New York closed a previously announced $480million, 1,776 MW purchase of all Orange and Rockland (O&R)Utilities’ generation assets Thursday. At the same time the dealclosed the Southern Energy subsidiary, which was created with thesole intention of operating these newly-acquired assets, wasted notime in proposing a $390 million, 710 MW expansion to the BowlinePoint Generation Station in Haverstraw, NY.

As the date of random assignment draws near in Georgia’sderegulated gas market, Georgia Natural Gas Services (GNGS) iscatching up to Scana Corp. in terms of statewide market share. Dueto its success in the race for Georgia gas customers, GNGSannounced last Monday it will open a new call center in Cobb Countyto help answer newly-acquired customers’ questions. The Atlanta GasLight (AGL) affiliate has won over one-third of the 839,000 totalswitches, second only to Scana Corp.’s 38% market share.
