Canadian natural gas exporters are off to a weak start on the new international contract year as volumes, prices and revenues continue the trade’s slide in its last 12-month period ending Oct. 31.

President Obama signed a memorandum last Tuesday that changes the course on a Bush-era regulation that allowed federal agencies to proceed with projects without consulting with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) about potential harm to endangered or threatened species and plants as required by the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

ConocoPhillips announced changes to senior management. Effective immediately, John Carrig, currently executive vice president, finance, and CFO, will become president and COO. He will continue to report to CEO Jim Mulva. Jim Gallogly, currently executive vice president, refining, marketing and transportation, will become executive vice president, exploration and production. Willie Chiang, currently senior vice president, commercial, will become senior vice president, refining, marketing and transportation. Greg Goff, currently president, strategy, integration and specialty businesses for refining, marketing and transportation, will become senior vice president, commercial. Ryan Lance will remain president, exploration and production for Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Gallogly, Chiang and Goff will report to Carrig.

The shift to more complex, unconventional drilling — launched by the success in the Barnett Shale — has doubled since 2000 and led to technological changes across the oil services sector, Raymond James & Associates Inc. energy analysts said last week.
