Transportation Notes

Southern Star Central issued a System Critical Notice noting several restrictions on storage services and balancing that will take effect Tuesday. They include no Authorized Overrun Service for firm storage injections and no interruptible injections; see the bulletin board for details. Southern Star said an OFO could be issued as early as Tuesday to any customer that fails to comply with the restrictions.

CNYOG Urges Quick Action on Marcellus Pipe Project

Officials with Inergy subsidiary Central New York Oil & Gas Co. LLC (CNYOG) have called on FERC to quickly issue a certificate so the company can begin construction of its MARC Hub Line project in northeastern Pennsylvania, saying failure to do so “would have significant adverse commercial consequences for CNYOG and its shippers.” The project would give northern markets greater access to Marcellus Shale gas.

An economic impact study released Tuesday by the Ohio Oil & Gas Energy Education Program (OOGEEP) found that more than 200,000 oil and natural gas jobs, generating $12 billion in wages and income, could be created in the Buckeye State’s portion of the Utica Shale by 2015.

Government officials, environmentalists and industry representatives carried the debate on hydraulic fracturing (fracking) to California’s south-central coast last Thursday in Santa Barbara County, and while there was no across-the-board agreement, local elected officials did voice surprise that fracking is a potential issue in their county where offshore oil/gas development has had a long-standing love-hate relationship with residents.

TransCanada Offering 32% Mainline Toll Cut

TransCanada Corp. is offering a 32% cut in tolls next year on its Mainline from Alberta to central Canada and the United States through a “comprehensive restructuring” to revive traffic on the beleaguered, half-century-old natural gas conduit.
