Yergin: ‘Shale Gale’ Transforms Gas Market
The “shale gale” that has swept across the United States and into Canada already has more than doubled the size of discovered natural gas resources in North America and is enough to satisfy more than 100 years of consumption at current rates, according to a study by IHS Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA).

Anticipated Warm-Ups Cause Most Points to Fall
Several points in the Northeast, Midwest, Gulf Coast, Pacific Northwest and Western Canada were flat or registered gains Friday, but for the most part softness continued to reign supreme. Approach of New Cold Helps Boost All But One Point
With the Rockies, Upper Plains, Northeast and much of Canada still enduring freezing lows and some sections of the South along most of the Midwest due to rejoin them by early this week, only a tiny loss at the Florida citygate averted an across-the-board run of rising prices Friday. Thursday’s futures increase of 11.9 cents provided further backing for the spot market.
Softness Heavily Dominant in Holiday Weekend Pricing
There was still quite a bit of heating load left with many Northeast, Midwest, Plains, Rockies and Western Canada locations still bottoming around freezing or lower, including a few cases into the teens, but prior-day futures weakness, the extra depressant on industrial load from a long holiday weekend and further moderation or status quo conditions in the forecast for many areas caused prices to fall at virtually all points Friday.
