Market Modestly Softer at Most Locations

A week of firmness in most of the cash market came to an end Wednesday as slight cooling trends in some areas combined with a prior-day screen loss of 9.3 cents to push prices lower at a large majority of points.

Large Storage Build Helps Sink Cash Points

Aided by moderate screen weakness the prior day, cash point averages on Thursday for Friday delivery came off a couple of pennies at a majority of locations with one point apiece in the Northeast, Texas, Rockies and the West shedding a dime while Dawn in the Midwest dropped 20 cents.

Senate Agriculture Committee Chair Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) Friday came out with a much-anticipated bill aimed at reining in commodities market speculation by forcing over-the-counter (OTC) derivative trades onto regulated exchanges and clearinghouses. As expected, it would include an exemption for large commercial traders who use derivatives to hedge the risk associated with trading of physical products.

Nearly All of Market Records Moderate Gains
