Calgary-based AltaGas Ltd. on Wednesday agreed to pay US$1.135 billion to acquire Semco Holding Corp., which has stakes in the largest natural gas distributor in Alaska, Enstar Natural Gas Co., as well as a Michigan gas distribution system.

Calgary’s Pembina Pipeline Corp. and Provident Energy Ltd. agreed last week to merge in a C$3.2 billion ($3.1 billion) transaction that would create a Canadian giant with oil and natural gas pipelines to transport crude and natural gas liquids (NGL), as well as midstream gas processing and an energy marketing arm.

Enbridge Inc. is investigating the report of a small natural gas leak in West Cameron Block 275, 66 miles off the coast of Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM), the Calgary-based company said late Tuesday.

Nexen Inc. last week secured two joint ventures (JV) in two separate transactions, both with Asian companies, that promise to give the Calgary-based independent a solid footing to expand development in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) as well as British Columbia (BC).

AltaGas Ltd. has agreed to buy Vancouver-based Pacific Northern Gas Ltd. (PNG) for C$36.75/share (approximately C$230 million), a 20% premium based on the C$30.50 Oct. 28 closing price for PNG shares, the Calgary-based company said.

EnerVest Ltd. on Thursday said it had come to terms with Encana Corp. to acquire the Calgary-based producer’s Barnett Shale portfolio in North Texas for $975 million.
