With quarterly exploration and production (E&P) profits more than doubling and midstream income rising 17.5% from a year ago, Williams has boosted its 2008 earnings guidance for the second time in less than two months.

Cash prices fell across the board Wednesday as the influx of chillier weather in northern market areas that had boosted quotes Tuesday proved to be short-lived. Tuesday’s June futures decline of 5.6 cents was another bearish influence on the physical market Wednesday.

Anadarko Petroleum Corp.’s retained properties lifted oil and natural gas production by 8% in the first three months of 2008 from a year ago, boosted by record gas output from the Greater Grand Buttes and the Powder River Basin.

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) continued to scale back its projections of natural gas consumption and boosted its forecast for coal demand in its latest Annual Energy Outlook (AEO) for 2007. The agency is now expecting annual U.S. gas consumption to reach only 26.1 Tcf by 2030, which is way down from expectations a few years ago of more than 30 Tcf.
