FERC last week gave its blessing to PNM Resources’ proposed $1.024 billion purchase of Fort Worth-based TNP Enterprises (TNP). The deal still needs approvals from state utility regulators in New Mexico and Texas, as well as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The U.S. Department of Transportation has given its blessing to a second proposed deepwater liquefied natural gas (LNG) port, which would be located about 116 miles south of New Orleans. Once operational, the floating terminal would be capable of delivering more than 500 MMcf/d into a pipeline network for onshore delivery.

Allegheny’s Purchase of West Virginia Power Rolls On

The Public Service Commission of West Virginia (PSC) gave itsblessing yesterday to the proposed purchase of UtiliCorp United’s WestVirginia Power division by Allegheny Power, the energy deliverycompany of Allegheny Energy Inc. The $75 million purchase wasannounced last September (see Daily GPI, Sept. 10).Before completion, the Security and ExchangeCommission still must give its approval. Allegheny expects this to bedone later this month. The purchase has already received the go-aheadfrom the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Federal TradeCommission.

Mississippi Canyon Gas Pipeline last week won FERC’s blessingfor a firm capacity expansion to 800 MMcf/d from 600 MMcf/d.Mississippi Canyon — formerly Shell Gas Pipeline — operates a45-mile dual-phase line from the West Delta Block 143 “A” platformon the Outer Continental Shelf offshore Louisiana to terminus nearthe Venice Gas Plant in Plaquemines Parish onshore in Louisiana.The capacity increase is to come from establishing maximum receiptand delivery point pressures and installation of additionalmetering facilities on the pipeline’s existing system at the Veniceplant delivery point.
