MMS Sells 195,000 MMBtu/d of Royalty Gas to Chevron, Sequent, BP

Chevron Natural Gas, Sequent Energy Management LP and BP Energy Co. were the winning bidders in the Minerals Management Service’s most recent Gulf of Mexico royalty gas auction. More than 195,000 MMBtu/d of royalty gas was sold under five and 12-month terms starting Nov. 1.

The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Utah office said it broke records for most acreage, revenues, and bidders in its quarterly oil and gas lease sale earlier this month. The BLM said 159 parcels, covering 245,775 acres received bids and the sale drew $28 million, half of which will go to the state.

The Department of Interior’s Minerals Management Service said that a sale it recently conducted sold more than 379,000 MMBtu of royalty-in-kind (RIK) gas produced from federal leases in the Gulf of Mexico. Seven companies purchased the gas during a winter heating season sale.

Newport, Calpine Grab 200 MDth/d on PG&E GTN

PG&E’s National Energy Group (NEG) announced the winning bidders in a recent open season for expansion capacity on its Gas Transmission-Northwest (GTN) pipeline system. Two power generators, Newport Northwest LLC and Calpine, were awarded 200,000 Dth/d of firm transportation capacity that will be available in 2002. The pipeline also is proceeding with another capacity offering that will convert to new firm service in 2003.
