SM Energy to Earn, Mitsui to Learn in Eagle Ford Deal

SM Energy Co. and a unit of Japan’s Mitsui & Co. Ltd. have struck a drilling carry agreement in the Eagle Ford Shale that is worth $680 million to the Denver-based producer and is part of its sell-down in the South Texas play. Mitsui, which already has a Marcellus Shale stake, recently announced a deal in Poland, where it said it plans to apply shale lessons learned in the United States.

Chesapeake’s Output Up 7%, Even with Shut-Ins, Sales

Chesapeake Energy Corp.’s production averaged 2.48 Bcfe/d in 3Q2009, up 7% from the 2.32 Bcf/d produced a year earlier, the company said Thursday. Average daily production consisted of 2.286 Bcf of natural gas and 32,902 b/d of oil and natural gas liquids.

Calpine’s Domestic Gas, Oil Reserves Fetch $1.05B

Accelerating efforts to slice more debt off its books, Calpine Corp. on Wednesday agreed to sell all of its domestic oil and natural gas assets — 383 Bcfe — to an indirect subsidiary for $1.05 billion. The sale is scheduled to close July 7.

Denver-based Gasco Energy reported record-breaking production volumes for 2Q2007 of 1.1 Bcfe, which was 8% higher sequentially than in 1Q2007 and 30% above 2Q2006. However, with none of its production protected by hedging, the price differentials for Rocky Mountain natural gas played havoc with the company’s balance sheet and sent it to a loss for the quarter.
