FERC OKs Waiver for Barclays to Buy UBS Commodities Business

FERC Tuesday approved a request for a temporary waiver of the agency’s capacity-release rules to facilitate the acquisition by Barclays Bank PLC of UBS’ natural gas trading portfolio in the United States. Both sides asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to act quickly so they could close the transaction by Wednesday (Dec. 31).

Sempra Eyes Faster Growth, More Diversity by 2012

Despite roiling global financial markets, federal regulatory delays in closing its joint venture with the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), and dissatisfaction with the company’s current stock price, San Diego-based Sempra Energy expects to have faster earnings growth and more diversity in its operations over the next five years, CEO Donald Felsinger told the company’s annual analyst meeting in New York City Thursday.

In expanding its U.S. Power and Gas Trading business in the last year, JPMorgan announced last week it has added three new employees from Deutsche Bank, two from UBS and one each from Sempra and Goldman Sachs. The additions are part of a 50-person expansion of its global commodities business, including oil and distillates trading, carbon and environmental products, energy sales and marketing and commodity-linked structural products. The new employees in the gas and power segment and their positions at JPMorgan are:
