Anomaly

Transportation Notes

Northwest completed an anomaly investigation south of Muddy Creek Compressor Station and lifted the associated Declared Deficiency Period. The Muddy Creek South Constraint Point was reset to its north-flow design capacity of 513,000 Dth/d Friday. Due to a unit inspection at Caldwell Compressor Station, where Primary firm nomination requests exceeded the available capacity of 412,000 Dth/d, Northwest notified shippers of a Declared Deficiency Period at Caldwell for Friday’s gas day only.

Transportation Notes

Noting that it began performing anomaly investigations between the Pleasant View and La Plata B compressor stations Friday, Northwest said Primary firm nomination requests flowing south through Pleasant View compressor station were exceeding the available capacity of 318,000 Dth/d. Therefore, the pipeline said, a Declared Deficiency Period will be in effect for all days except Sundays through the work’s expected completion Sept. 7. Based on Pleasant View’s design capacity of 352,446 Dth/d, the Daily Deficiency Volume is 34,446 Dth/d, Northwest said. The full design capacity will be available on all Sundays.

Transportation Notes

El Paso said it has determined that a pipe anomaly between the Eunice and Pecos River Stations will require replacement of about 80 feet of pipe, which will begin at 8 a.m. MST Thursday and is expected to take 12 hours. The reduction in segment capacity will be about 200 MMcf/d out of a base capacity of 400 MMcf/d. The IPENNWELL interconnect will be completely shut in for the duration of the work, but based on current levels of throughput, El Paso expects minimal service impact.

Unexpected Storage Number an Anomaly

Industry analysts whose predictions were almost entirely out of the money on last week’s storage injection have offered various explanations for the big dip in the numbers announced by the Energy Information Administration (EIA). The consensus of prognosticators had centered around a mid-80s Bcf build, so the 72 Bcf that EIA said was injected into underground natural gas storage for the week ended July 16 came as a shock.

EEA: High Gas Prices Here to Stay, But More Cogens Could Provide Near-Term Relief

The current gas pricing environment is not an anomaly that is soon to vanish in a sudden market collapse. It’s a supply-driven predicament that’s going to stick around for years, according to consultants at Energy and Environmental Analysis Inc. (EEA).

(EEA). The best thing large gas consumers can do in the short-term, EEA said, is be more efficient by using more combined heat and power generation, traditionally called cogeneration.

Transportation Notes

After excavating and investigating mainline anomaly locations identified through pigging data, Northwest said Monday several locations require pipe replacements that will be done Tuesday through Friday this week. It issued a notice of Declared Deficiency Period and posted this schedule of impacts: Sept. 23-26, the Vernal Cut Point must net to zero all four days; Sept. 23, all receipt/delivery points between valves 2-7 and 2-8A will be cut to zero, including Bar-X, Bar-X Premier, Badger Wash, Grand Junction and Calf Canyon LFC; and Sept. 25, all receipt/delivery points between valves 2-9 and 2-10 will be cut to zero, including Foundation Creek, West Douglas, Dragon Trail and Sand Springs.

Transportation Notes

Northwest said it has determined that pipeline anomaly digs in the Vernal district will be completed Friday (July 26). As a result, it will end the Notice of Deficiency Period effective with Saturday’s gas day and will reset the Moab (UT) Compressor Station to its southbound design capacity of 358,000 Dth /d. Northwest previously had expected the Vernal work and related flow restrictions to last through Aug. 8 (see Daily GPI, June 25).
