El Paso Taking Stake in Gulf LNG Clean Energy Project

A subsidiary of El Paso Corp. has agreed to acquire a 50% interest in the Gulf LNG Clean Energy Project, a planned liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Pascagoula, MS. An El Paso subsidiary also will operate the terminal and will manage its construction.

CO PUC Grants Xcel Rate Increase, Tweaks Decoupling Pilot

The Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) approved a settlement increasing Xcel Energy’s annual natural gas base rate revenue by $32.2 million, but it also is requiring the company to absorb some revenue loss due to declining customer usage.

Joining March, April and May, June Expires in the $7.50s

Bringing the string of consecutive expirations in the $7.50s to four, June natural gas futures on Tuesday put in a low of $7.490 before expiring at $7.591, down 4.9 cents on the day. The settle also marked the June contract’s seventh consecutive lower regular session close, bringing the loss streak to 48.4 cents.

Sempra’s SoCalGas Gains ‘Climate Leader’ Status, Too

Demonstrating that global warming is also a natural gas utility concern, Sempra Energy’s Southern California Gas Co. Tuesday said it has followed an affiliated utility in successfully certifying its 2005 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory with the California Climate Action Registry, gaining designation as a “Climate Action Leader.” Sempra’s other California utility, San Diego Gas and Electric Co., gained similar status earlier in March.

Justice Dept. Warns Against Publishing Transaction-Specific Data

There is such a thing as too much transparency, the U.S. Justice Department told FERC in comments on the Commission’s consideration of how to use its new responsibility to ensure market transparency under the Energy Policy Act of 2005. Justice advised that dissemination of company-specific or transaction-specific information could harm consumers by allowing companies to coordinate activities and drive prices up [AD06-11].
