A federal judge in Massachusetts has given Algonquin Gas Transmission LLC the right to take control of parts of three streets in a Boston neighborhood that the company needs to build a section of its Algonquin Incremental Market (AIM) Project.

Amongst milder weather and the comfortable lethargy of August trading, the forward market as measured by NGI’s Forward Lookmoved up just less than three cents on average since the close of trading on Aug. 21. For traders at many index locations, the price of September gas seems to have already been worked out with the start of the month less than a week away. However, there is one exception.

Weekend and Monday physical natural gas showed some isolated pockets of strength Friday, but for the most part traders were reluctant to spring for three-day deals and prices retreated.

Seemingly low demand and various pipeline issues in the Northeast have sent daily natural gas prices at the typically premium-priced New England market hub to an unusual discount to its New York counterpart since the beginning of May. But market sources say the traditional pricing relationship between these two hubs could quickly reemerge with a swing in demand or the conclusion of pipeline work.

Physical natural gas for delivery Tuesday eased as moderate strength at northeast points on Monday failed to offset broader declines in the Gulf, Rockies, and California. Overall the market shed 2 cents to $2.33.

Natural gas fixed forward prices all followed Nymex futures lower this week, but a couple of points posted even sharper declines as mild forecasts and the earlier-than-normal return of nuclear generation added pressure to those markets.

Physical gas for Monday delivery showed its typical over-the-weekend pattern of declining prices as traders elected to make any spot purchases of gas on an as-needed basis.
