Eight years after agreeing to fund research to develop next-generation biofuels fromphotosynthetic algae, ExxonMobil Corp. said Monday it reached a breakthrough with partner Synthetic Genomics Inc. that more than doubled the oil content from an algae strain without significantly inhibiting its growth.
