Cal-ISO Lowers Price Cap to $250

Facing more power alerts, near-record demand and strongpolitical pressure, the California Independent System Operator(Cal-ISO) Board Monday voted, 15-6, to lower the price cap to$250/MW for ancillary services, and spent another day discussingwhat combination of fixed-price supply deals and infrastructureupgrades can help the state avoid blackouts and rolling brownoutsthe rest of this summer. The price cap lowering is effective Aug.7.

Electric Utility Customer Satisfaction on the Rise

Despite the tense situation in the power industry and thenumerous power alerts so far this summer, a new study by J.D. Powerand Associates and Navigant Consulting found that electric utilitycustomer satisfaction actually has improved this year and theaverage length of the longest power outage declined. Nationwideabout 65% of residential customers reported that they are extremelyor very satisfied with their electric utility provider.

Reaction to Northeast Heat Muted; West Soars Back

Despite the return of hot weather alerts and temporary voltagereductions among Northeast electric utilities Monday, spot gasprices found it tough going to build much further on Friday’smoderate gains. Gas demand was fairly strong, sources said, butnot big enough to boost prices any more than 1-2 cents at citygatesand in the Gulf Coast production area. In fact, several Gulf pointsturned in flat performances.
