Entergy-Koch LP opened for business yesterday, adding a newwholesale energy trading, transportation and marketing company tothe burgeoning marketplace. Formed by subsidiaries of Entergy Corp.and Koch Industries, Houston-based EKLP will deliver, market andtrade power, natural gas and other energy-related commodities,including weather derivatives through Axia Energy LP, Axia EnergyEurope Ltd. and Gulf South Pipeline Co. LP.

Adding to losses notched in Monday’s open-outcry session,natural gas futures gapped lower at the open yesterday and neverlooked back, as traders liquidated positions ahead of today’sstorage report. The February contract took the selling squarely onthe chin, tumbling 51.1 cents to close at $6.946. Estimated volumewas weak as only 42,671 contracts changed hands.

Cinergy Corp. yesterday reported that its non-regulated affiliate, Cinergy Capital & Trading, is in the process of adding almost 1,000 MW of electricity to its generating portfolio in the southeastern United States through an acquisition of two of Enron North America’s power plants.

Adding to gains achieved in Tuesday night’s Access tradingsession, natural gas futures spiraled higher Wednesday as tradersprobed into uncharted price territory in reaction to anotherbullish storage report. Fueled by that buying pressure, theDecember contract finished 24.9 cents higher at $6.265, almost$2.00 above lows notched two weeks ago.
