Energy Analysts Remain Pessimistic on Gas Prices

Natural gas prices are weak and will remain that way into 2011 because of abundant supplies and weak demand, Merrill Lynch, the investment banking arm of Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAML), said Tuesday. GasMart 2010: Bentek Chief Sees Long Wait for Higher Prices

Abundant gas supplies make for a “bleak picture” for gas producers in the near term, Bentek Energy LLC CEO Porter Bennett said last week. While prices will stay in a $3.50-5.50 range for a while, this will ultimately spur demand, particularly among power generators, he posited, and that will be the cure for low prices. But until then — two or three years from now — things will continue to be interesting.

Whatever Happened to Natural Gas?

Will this country’s abundant, home-grown natural gas shale resources reach their full potential as a bridge fuel to a clean, green energy future or will market forces and onerous government restrictions combine to ratchet down their explosive development? Industry leaders at the 24th annual GasMart will be discussing how companies now are moderating their spending on natural gas development while emphasizing oil and liquids-rich properties, just as the economy and industrial markets are coming back to life.
