TransCanada CEO Doug Baldwin let investors know last week thatthis year is just the beginning of the cost-cutting and assetshuffling at the company. He predicted assets sales would reach $3billion (out of a total of $26 billion) by the end of 2001,including what already has been put on the block this year.

TransCanada CEO Doug Baldwin let investors know that this yearis just the beginning of the cost-cutting and asset shuffling atthe company. He said to expect $3 billion of the company’s $26billion in assets to be put on the auction block by the end of2001. That includes those assets that have been or will be soldthis year: Angus Chemical, which was bought by Dow Chemical in thethird quarter; the prior transfer of ownership in Northern Borderto TC Pipelines LP; and the company’s liquids marketing business,which is expected to be sold in the fourth quarter. He warned thereis still a lot of underperforming fat to be trimmed, and anotherso-far-unannounced collection of assets could go in the fourthquarter.
Texas’ Senate Okays Electric Deregulation Bill
Senate Bill 7, legislation requiring electricity marketcompetition in Texas as of Jan. 1, 2002, passed the state SenateFriday, leaving the Governor’s signature as the missing piece ofthe puzzle before the bill becomes law. Governor George W. Bush hasnot said when he will sign the Sen. David Sibley (R-Waco)-sponsoredbill, but has voiced his support.

The Market Choice Storage Project offers a limitedopportunity to obtain firm market-area storage on the CNGT system.The service includes up to three turns in the winter season, noratchets if inventory stays above 35 percent, and a five-year term.Price estimates are at projected General Storage Services and FirmTransportation rate schedules. CNGT’s pipeline system has access tosupply basins in Canada, the Gulf Coast, Midcontinent, andAppalachia for storage refill opportunities. The system offers keydelivery points, such as Leidy, Oakford, Ellisburg, Nokesville,numerous LDC citygates and its North and South points. The openseason began yesterday and concludes at 5 p.m. EDT April 30. CNGanticipates rolled-in pricing under Rate Schedule GSS.
