Williams Plans $400M Investment in Devils Tower Facilities

Williams said its Devils Tower platform and pipeline facilities in the Gulf of Mexico will require an investment of more than $400 million and will be in service by mid-2003. The floating production facility will be able to handle up to 60,000 b/d of oil. The Mountaineer pipeline will have a capacity of 150,000 b/d of oil, and the proposed Canyon Chief pipeline will have a capacity of 350 MMcf/d of gas.

Chevron To Participate In Canadian LNG Plant Study

Chevron Corp. said last week it will work with Irving Oil Ltd. to study the costs and other factors involved in building a C$500 million (US$320 million) liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in Saint John, NB. Irving Oil, a family-owned company with energy interests in eastern Canada, announced two months ago that it was considering construction of an LNG plant at its ice-free Canaport deepwater facility, where it has operated an oil terminal since 1970 (see NGI, July 30).

Study Finds ‘A Limit’ to Conventional Canadian Supplies

Western Canada’s natural gas production will continue to be the key to the country’s gas supply, while Canada’s frontier regions will supplement the volumes available from the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin, according to the authors of a comprehensive four-year study. However, future supplies will cost more to find and produce because the average size of new gas pools, mostly in western Canada, is shrinking.

GAO Warns of Possible Litigation Over Energy Policy Documents

Comptroller General David M. Walker said Friday he received an “inadequate” amount of information related to the development of the Bush administration’s energy policy from the vice president’s office in response to a request from the General Accounting Office (GAO) and was “preparing for possible litigation.” It would be the first time the investigative branch of Congress went to court against the executive branch.
