Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (PG&E) once again has reported to California authorities that its distribution equipment in the far north remote Shasta County may have been involved in the Zogg Fire that has consumed more than 56,000 acres before being 99% contained on Monday. 

The utility’s equipment has been traced to at least eight fires ignited in the past three years.

In a two-week wildfire that has killed four and destroyed or damaged 231 structures, PG&E in federal and state filings reported that when the Zogg blaze began Sept. 27 alarms were set off on a smart meter and a distribution power line in the immediate vicinity of the fire’s suspected start.
