In a step to support decarbonization, Linde plc signed a long-term contract to supply low-carbon hydrogen and nitrogen to OCI NV’s planned blue ammonia plant southeast of Houston. 

OCI, based in the Netherlands, is one of the world’s largest fertilizer manufacturers. It launched the natural gas-fueled blue ammonia project, to be based in Beaumont, in December. UK-based Linde works around the world to build sustainable solutions for its customers. 

The $1.8 billion investment is designed to supply OCI with carbon capture and storage (CCS) opportunities for more than 1.7 million metric tons/year of carbon dioxide emissions. In the Houston area alone, major companies including ExxonMobil are proposing billions in investments into CCS projects.
