Natural gas futures retreated in early trading Tuesday as overnight forecast trends eased back on cold expectations for later this month, though gains from the previous session were largely preserved.

The December Nymex contract was down 1.9 cents to $3.178/MMBtu at around 8:47 a.m. ET after rallying 16.4 cents Monday.

A mix of overnight forecast trends included a warmer shift from the European model, which advertised less cold over the northern United States for days six through 15 of the outlook, according to NatGasWeather.

The American model, meanwhile, showed a colder outlook for this weekend into early next week but shifted warmer for Nov. 23-26, the firm said.
