Mexican energy regulator Comisión Reguladora de Energía (CRE) has granted TC Energía permits to hold open seasons to gauge demand interest on its pipelines.

TC Energía is the Mexico subsidiary of Canada’s TC Energy Corp. The company sees “a wealth of untapped demand” for natural gas in Mexico to be unlocked over the next decade, Stanley Chapman III, the firm’s president for U.S. and Mexico natural gas pipelines, said late last year.

The CRE authorization would allow for expressions of interest on its Mexico pipelines and could also lead to capacity increases and pipeline extensions. It would also be a “useful tool for the company to speak in a formal manner to the different chambers of commerce or to state governments to understand their needs,” TC said.
