The Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA) said electrifying natural gas compressors would reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions but concerns remain about generator system reliability and resiliency.

The trade association, which represents most of North America’s interstate natural gas transmission pipeline companies, sponsored a recent study to discern the advantages and problems of using electricity to power compressors. The study was conducted by ICF International (ICF). INGAA members are working toward achieving net zero carbon emissions from their domestic gas transmission and storage assets by 2050.
