“It is necessary to implement changes in the institutional design of the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) with the purpose of guaranteeing its commitment to the well-being of consumers and to promote a climate of confidence and trust between the various actors in the energy sector,” Diego Díaz Pérez, researcher at the Instituto Mexicano para la Competitividad (IMCO), told NGI’s Mexico GPI. 

“The constitution should be reformed so that the commissioners of the CRE are selected by an independent evaluation committee that is tasked with verifying that those appointed meet the requirements and technical knowledge necessary for the position.”
