FuelCell Energy Inc., a global leader in sustainable energy technologies, is partnering with Toyota Motor North America Inc. on a triple generation system, aka “Tri-gen,” to produce renewable electricity, renewable hydrogen, and directed biogas, better known as renewable natural gas (RNG).

The Tri-gen system at Toyota’s Port of Long Beach facility in California is the global vehicle manufacturer’s “first port vehicle processing facility in the world powered by onsite-generated, 100% renewable energy,” officials said. The project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from the power grid by more than 9,000 tons/year.
